2. Make a 2 cm hole on the soil and place 1 to 2 seeds. Close the hole with more potting medium and then water.

3. Water your plants everyday.

4. After 3-4 weeks, give your herbs some fertilizer once a week using urea diluted at a rate of 5 grams per liter of water. Apply 150 ml of solution to each plant at the base.

For organic fertilizer

4. After 3-4 weeks of sowing, apply organic fertilizer diluted at a rate of 10 ml per liter of water. Spray once a week or once every two weeks.

Maintaining Your Herbs

Leafy Vegetables

Leafy greens like lettuce, pechay, and kale are fast-growing, nutritious, and easy to cultivate. With proper sunlight, good soil, and regular watering, they thrive in gardens, pots, or greenhouses—ready to harvest fresh for your table.

1. Fill all the pots with Growell Potting Medium until close to the top.

2. Make a 1 cm hole and place a seed. Close the hole with more Growell then water your newly sown seeds.

3. Water your plants everyday, make sure that the soil is moist.

4. After 2 weeks, your plants should have at least 3 to 4 leaves. Apply urea fertilizer by diluting 5 grams of urea in 1 liter of water. Apply to your plants using a drenching method (to the soil) once a week for healthy roots and leaves. Apply urea once a week.

For organic fertilizer

4. After 2 weeks, your plants should have at least 3-4 leaves. Apply organic fertilizer by diluting 10 ml in 1 liter of water. Apply using foliar method of spraying. Spray organic fertilizer once a week or once every two weeks.

5. 30-35 days after sowing, expect fully grown leafy vegetables for harvest.

Things to Consider

Leafy vegetables must be in an elevated area and need at least 2-4 hours of sunlight everyday.

Cucurbits

Cucurbits like cucumber, squash, bitter gourd, and melon thrive in warm conditions with plenty of sunlight and space to climb or spread. With good soil, proper trellising, and consistent watering, they produce abundant harvests for both home and commercial growers.

1. Fill your seedling tray with Growell Potting Medium.

2. Soak the seeds in non-chlorinated water for about 30 minutes.

3. Crack the seeds by squeezing the tip of the seeds using your forefinger and thumb. Seeds are sown 1/2 inches deep with the pointed part of the seeds positioned downward.

4. Water your plants everyday.

5. Transplant the seedlings 10-15 days after sowing or when the seedlings have 2-3 true leaves. Transplanting should be done late in the afternoon. Seeds may also be sown directly on the ground with 2 to 3 seeds per hole.

6. Drenching should be done 7 to 10 days after transplanting at 10 ml per plant base.

7. Pruning is required for improved fruit setting. Remove all side shoots, flowers, and fruits that will appear in the first five nodes of the plant's primary vine.

8. Weed the pot or planted area.

9. Harvest fruits 45 days after transplanting if the fruit will be used as a premature vegetable, 60-65 days when mature. Cut the stem, leaving about 2 inches of the stem attached. Avoid cuts and bruises while handling.

Solanaceous

Tomato, eggplant, and pepper belong to the solanaceous family and are staples in many gardens and farms. They thrive in warm climates with well-drained soil and plenty of sunlight, rewarding growers with high-value, flavorful harvests.

1. Prepare your seedling tray and soil potting medium before seed sowing. Insert 1 seed per hole.

2. Seeds will start to germinate about 4 days after sowing.

3. Transplant seedling after 21-25 days after sowing or when the 4th true leaves appear.

4. Planting distance between rows is 70 cm and 60 cm between plants.

5. Do not transplant too late because old seedlings may cause dropping of the first flower and lead to poor fruit setting or small sized fruit.

6. Fertilizer application, 1 week after transplanting. (See drenching schedule)

7. Fruits can be harvested 60-70 days after transplanting or when the fruits become red in color for tomatoes, dark green or red for sweet pepper, for eggplants, flowering is expected 40-45 days after transplanting, 2 weeks after flowering, fruits are ready for harvest.

Sunflowers

Sunflowers are hardy, easy to grow, and loved for their bright blooms and nutritious seeds. They thrive in full sunlight with well-drained soil, making them a rewarding choice for gardens, landscapes, or commercial planting.

4. Place your plants in a warm and sunny location with 6-8 hours of sunlight. For best results, rotate the pot often so all sides receive equal sunlight.

5. After 3-4 weeks, give your sunflowers some fertilizer once a week using urea fertilizer diluted at a rate of 5 grams per liter of water. Apply 150 ml per plant at the base of your plant after watering.

For organic fertilizer

5. After 3-4 weeks from sowing, give your sunflowers fertilizer once a week or every two weeks using organic fertilizer diluted at a rate of 10 ml per liter of water. Apply to your plants using foliar method (spraying).

Red Lady Papaya

Red Lady papaya is a fast-growing, high-yield variety known for its sweet flavor and large fruits. It thrives in well-drained soil with full sunlight and regular watering, making it a popular choice for both backyard growers and commercial farms.

1. Soak the seeds in non-chlorinated water for 30 minutes to 6 hours. (Optional)

2. Fill the seedling tray with Growell Potting Medium and sow the seeds with a depth of 1 cm to 1.5 cm. The seeds will germinate 7-15 days after sowing.

3. Water two times a day, morning and afternoon, with a minimum amount of water. Make sure to use a fine mist so that the seeds will not be removed from the medium.

4. After 25-30 days transfer the seedlings to a bigger tray or a seedling bag. The seedlings will be ready for transplanting when they are about 6 inches high or 2 months old.

5. Plow and clean the planting area. For sandy soil, make flatbeds, and for sandy loam or clay soil, make raised beds. Use 1 meter bed, 1 meter canal. The bed should be 15-20 cm high above the fertilized level. The planting distance should be 2.5m x 3m, dig 45cm x 45cm holes.

6. One week after transplanting, apply fertilizer (calcium nitrate) during the vegetative stage. For flowering stage, apply complete fertilizer. For fruiting stage, apply muriate of potash.

(See the recommended drenching schedule below).

During the fruiting stage, apply the necessary fertilizer for continuous fruiting.

7. Fruits can be harvested 8-9 months after transplanting when small yellowish portions appear on the fruits. After harvesting, wrap the fruits in newspaper to avoid bruising/injury.
